Good weather and our wonderful environment sees plenty of boats out on our waters and that means plenty of help needed from the team at Marine Rescue Port Stephens.

Hot on the heels of the regions game fishing tournaments, we have The Trailer Boat Fishing Comp, Women who Sail and Sail Port Stephens all on the sparkling waters of the Bay.

The volunteer driven Marine Rescue service will be at various sites across these events raising vital funds to keep their boats in the water and the radio base operational.

While anyone who has ever been in trouble on our waters knows that Marine Rescue will be there to help, we often don’t think about the actual costs involved.

Peter Young who is on the fundraising committee for Marine Rescue told News Of The Area, “It costs over $185,000 to cover the services overheads.

“To help raise funds to run the base and boats, along with our collection boats at these three events we will be running a raffle with a Microsoft Surface Pro 2017 Laptop as first prize, other prizes include fishing gear, a painting and even a BBQ.” he said.

There is a total prize pool over $2,500.

Tickets can be purchased at the Marine Rescue base at Little Beach and at various events around the Bay, it will be drawn on the last day of Sail Port Stephens on 15 April.

Marine Rescue Port Stephens volunteers go to sea to help people in trouble in the worst of conditions, they brave the weather, that should see them in a safe harbour, so that we can all rest assured that our families and friends will have help if they are in danger.

They tow boats back to harbour, they give their time and expertise as volunteers and they need the support of our community, and those they bring home safe to keep the engines running.

One thing we depend on is that Marine Rescue Port Stephens will be there.
