NARELLE Richards a local landscaping student is seeking help from community members as she completes her Diploma in Landscape Design.

Narelle has decided to plan her final assessment, within the grounds of the Yacaaba Centre, Nelson Bay.

A centre close to her heart.

Narelle said, “I know of many who have benefitted from the wonderful, supportive and understanding staff at the centre.”

“I am thinking of those people who have lost their fight with depression leading to suicide.”

“Therefore, the focus on the memory garden is to raise awareness in the community of the Yacaaba Centre’s service so that suicide may be prevented and those who struggle in other ways know where they can get assistance.”

The Yacaaba Centre is for both men and women of all ages.

“Having the garden renovated will make a big difference, and will make it easier when we are speaking with children as there will be things to look at and talk about.”

“Staff and the general community will benefit from the tranquil setting Narelle is trying to create for us,” one staff member said.

Narelle is asking the community for sculptures, totems, murals/painting services, and local tradies to help build a pergola.

It would also be very helpful if we could have volunteers to help tidy up the garden.

“Apart from helping a great organisation, those who are able to donate will have their work on permanent display,” Narelle said.

The tranquil garden will be for the entire community, not just for clients of the Yacaaba Centre.

A place where anyone can go to meditate, reflect and relax.

Narelle would love to see more landscaping in the area and hopes to make this her full time career.
