Four exciting workshops are coming up, and residents and friends alike are invited to sign up and join one of these learning experiences.

TAG are a wonderful collection of people, from the hobby artist through to professional.

Everyone is welcome, and it is a wonderful way to meet new people and try your hand at something different.

First up is an ‘Introduction to Tromp L’Oeil Art’ for intermediate artists on the 30 April from 9am to 3pm.

Jeanette Matts will be running the workshop, and told News Of The Area it has been a joy to recreate again now she is retired and living on the Tilligerry Peninsula for the last 15 years.

Jeanette said,”Over the years I have conducted many art workshops in and around Sydney.”

“I studied Art/Design for 4 years and have won awards, and many of my paintings have been shown in major exhibitions.”

“My Tromp L’Oeil works and other paintings are hanging on, or painted on walls, interstate and overseas, the largest being 9 metres by 1.8 metres,” she remarked.

The second workshop will be an exciting class on ‘Watercolour for Beginners by Di Swain on 5 May, from 9:30am to 12:30.

Di Swain is one of the most productive and best known of Tilligerry Artists.

She is largely self-taught, except for attending some classes and workshops with well-known local artist Cheryl Cusack.

The third workshop in the series will be a morning class over three dates – 7, 14 and 21 July from 9:30am until 12:30.

This class will teach attendees how to knit soft toys.

The aim of this workshop is for students to create a soft toy that is safe for infants, is soft and cuddly, and is made in the correct materials, whilst also adding a personal touch and personality to the toy.

Sandy Gordon-Baker will be running this course, and brings with her a wealth of experience, hailing from the UK, where her mother and grandmother patiently taught her to knit.

Running on the same dates as Sandy’s knitting class, is a Tunisian Crochet class run by Ian Mullligan.

The focus is on Tunisian basic techniques using Tunisian Simple Stitch to provide the skills to get moving on a self sustaining Tunisian Crochet Project.

There are very limited places in all classes, so get in quick at www.tilligerryartsgroup.com to secure your place.

Another event to keep in mind via their website is the ‘Fantastic Forgeries Exhibition’ to be hosted by TAG in June.

An exhibition not to be missed.

  1. Can you please advise if you have or know of any mosaic/ceramic classes in the local area in the Port Stephens Area and if you have any further events after the three workshops at Tilligerry Art Gallery. Thank you Rita
