Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au The Woolgoolga High School student representatives and Woolgoolga Public School captains met to discuss their wants and needs for the new complex, as part of the West Woolgoolga Sports Complex planning and design phase. Students discussed outdoor space use for the complex at the recent meeting, and ideas suggested included an outdoor stage, astro turf multi-purpose recreational outdoor area, climbing walls, study zones and art spaces. Woolgoolga High School Year 10 SRC representative Ally Cork said the new sports complex will be great for the high school and the wider Woolgoolga community. “We are so excited to have the opportunity to have input into the design of such an amazing facility,” Ally said. The students ideas will be forwarded to the Design Team working on the West Woolgoolga Sports Complex for incorporation into the complex’s planning and design. The student focus group was organised by Woolgoolga High School Deputy Principal Kathy Bear and led by Youth Entrepreneur Program (YEP) coordinator Cherie Topfer. West Woolgoolga Sports Complex will be located opposite Woolgoolga High School on Solitary Islands Way. The complex will include playing fields for touch football, cricket, rugby union, rugby league and AFL, cricket training nets, shade shelter, an amenities block and a car park. It will also include a Northern Beaches Multi-Purpose Centre with two indoor courts for basketball and netball, a stage, kitchen, multi-purpose rooms and amenities. The $24.7 million project is being funded through $6.7 million from Coffs Harbour City Council, $8 million from the NSW Government and $10 million from the Federal Government. Site works are due to begin later this year, with major construction works to start in early 2021. Construction is anticipated to take two years. By Emma DARBIN
