ASHLEIGH Bromell has had a love affair with baseball, in more ways than one.

“My husband and I both play for the Coffs Harbour Allstars, and we met playing representative sport when we were kids,” she said.

“We met playing softball in the North Coast Academy, and we were in a relationship when we were both playing baseball in Lismore while he was studying teaching at Southern Cross University.

“We’ve been together for seven years and married for two years.”

A Lismore native, Bromell moved to the area last year to be with her husband Jason with the married couple now living in Woolgoolga with Jason pursuing his teaching career.

The 2nd baseman and centre fielder played B-grade in Round 3 of the Coffs Harbour Baseball Association’s season last weekend, going 2-2 on base with a 2-bagger and a walk.

After starting with a softball background, Bromell fell in love with baseball.

“I played softball as a kid, and I wanted to try baseball as it’s more of a challenge,” she said.

“The sport itself is a great way to be part of a community and to be active.”

Bromell told News Of The Area she came from a strong baseball culture.

“Baseball is huge in Lismore, and Far North Coast Baseball is a really strong organisation built on the grounds of really good values,” she said.

“I hope baseball can be the same in Coffs Harbour.”

The Coffs Harbour Allstars player said she couldn’t wait to take to the field again after the Coffs Harbour Baseball Association cancelled its season in 2020 due to COVID-19.

“I played for three seasons in Lismore before I moved here, and I was thinking about playing in Coffs last year but it was a bit up in the air and then we didn’t end up on the field,” she said.

“But today I was definitely busting to get out there again.”
