Rachael Vaughaun, President of the Wirreanda Public School P&C told News Of The Area, “This year’s Book Week Parade at Wirreanda was another special event encouraging children to embrace a passion for reading.” “In this technological world, it’s important that we promote these modern advances to our kids, but just as important not to let them miss out on the magic of getting lost in the physical pages of a book.” “Wirreanda staff go above and beyond to make the whole Book Week amazing for the kids, and with each event they organise, I am just blown away by the quality of public education our children in Medowie have available to them.” “It’s wonderful!” Book Week, an annual event supported by the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA), aims to promote books of high literary and artistic quality. Many Wirreanda students enjoyed getting dressed up this year and a lot of effort went into some creative costumes. Oaklan Reed told News Of The Area, “I chose to go as Harry Potter’s best friend Ron Weasley because having friends is important and he has red hair like me!” Olivia Storer told News Of The Area, “I dressed as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz because I recently watched The Wizard of Oz for the first time and I really loved Dorothy.” Stay tuned for the announcement of the Book Of The Year in August.
