GIG artist Gisela Cutler with her winning Winter Warmer work ‘The Forest Floor’.

BRAVING a frosty Friday night were Galleries in the Gardens members and our very supportive MP Kate Washington who revealed the prize winners of the Space-themed Winter Warmer Art Exhibition 2021.

Earlier in the day over 50 entries were judged by award-winning art printmaker, painter and sculptor Therese Gabriel Wilkins.

Five leading contenders were carefully distilled down to one winner and one highly commended.

For her large watercolour entitled ‘The Forest Floor’, Gisela Cutler was awarded Winner.

Therese noted, “The Forest Floor often goes unnoticed. Gisela has captured this overlooked space which teams with life, describing it beautifully, fully within the viewer’s focus, skilfully applying watercolour techniques to create reflection and depth.”

‘Personal Space’ by Chez Rands attracted high commendation.

“The ceramic human form tucked into a nest of vine, feathers and shells, captures the viewer’s attention, which on closer inspection, is drawn to discover the figure snuggly and comfortably wrapped in her private space.”

Both Kate and Therese expressed their delight in the quality and diversity of works by Galleries in the Gardens artists, and complimented The Gallery as a wonderful destination for visitors and special place for members.

The Winter Warmer exhibition runs through to Monday 12 July.

You’re invited to cast a vote in the People’s Choice Award (it may even win you a prize!), and enter the Winter Warmer raffle for another opportunity to win.

This year’s raffle prize is a work by GIG artist Glen Henry.

The Gallery is at 81 Marine Drive in the café strip on the Tea Gardens waterfront.

Free entry, open daily 10am to 3pm, closed Tuesdays.
