Or media@newsofthearea.com.au Or CLICK FOR ADVERT QUOTE Five teams participated during the day in both a Men’s and Mixed competition including Port Stephens/Hunter District Police, Port Stephens Council, the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), representatives of the Department Of Education, and of course, the Aboriginal Community of the Port Stephens area. State member for Port Stephens Kate Washington MP opened the day, along with a moving smoking ceremony by Worimi community members, and then, it was on for young and old. With matches played over twenty minute duration, minus a halftime break, it was clear that the fitness levels of all concerned were going to be tested throughout the day. In the mixed competition, the Port Stephens Council team looking to be the front runners with the RAAF close behind. However, when the pressure was on during the final, the men and women of our Air Force did enough to hold off the Council to win the Mixed Competition Plate. In the Men’s competition, there was only ever going to be one winner with the RAAF steamrolling all comers, overcoming a brave contingent from the Department of Education in the final, easily taking out the Men’s Competition Cup 7 to 3, making it a double RAAF win. Kate Washington MP also had the pleasure of presenting the Cup and Plate trophies to their respective winners. In the end, the day was enjoyed by all, with some enjoying their own sense of success. “It was a great experience and to make things even better our Police team ended up even winning a game for the first time, so we’re thrilled and just want to make sure everyone remembers we won a game!” Chief Inspector Tony Townsend told News Of The Area. Another win in terms of community involvement was to see our esteemed mayor Ryan Palmer taking to the field as part of the council team, something many spectators took great notice of.
