The Alesco College at Nelson Bay is hosted by the PCYC and has 27 students participating in years nine and ten.

The local Westpac branch has pitched in to help the Alesco Senior College in Nelson Bay, so they can continue the great work they are doing in our area.

Jason Russell manager of the Nelson Bay Westpac Branch told News Of The Area, “Personally I think they deserve broader recognition and awareness of the service they are providing to our community.”

The Alesco Senior College specifically targets those young people who are unlikely to find success in a traditional school environment.

The Alesco Senior College works towards providing young people, who maybe struggling to find success in a mainstream system, the opportunity to re-evaluate their situation and achieve success in a smaller and more supportive environment.
Alesco offers individual support, personalised planning and a pathway into vocational training.

Attending this school means the difference to some students between attending school or not.

Westpac has presented the school with a cheque for $1,650 to put towards a long rectangular table and chairs to seat 16 -20 students so that they are able to cook and share a meal together.

The space and communal area where the table will be positioned will provide the students with valuable life skills.

Some of the furniture used at the college at present has literally been picked up off the sides of the road so a new table where everyone can be seated will be a big improvement for the college and its students.
