Pole Collision in Tea Gardens

At approximately 8:20 PM on Monday 13 December, Police from the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District were called to a single vehicle collision on Myall Road in Tea Gardens.

A car had been driven into a light pole which had snapped the pole at its base.

Upon arrival, police found two young children in that vehicle.

Thankfully, no occupants of the vehicle were injured.

The driver of the vehicle, police will allege, declined a roadside breath test, and was subsequently arrested and taken back to the station in which he once again refused a breath analysis.

The man has been charged in relation to the offence and has had his licence suspended.

He will now face Raymond Terrace Local Court.

Operation Rural Roads

On 18 December 2021, Police from Port Stephens-Hunter PD, assisted by Traffic & Highway Patrol Command conducted ‘Operation Rural Roads,’ in the suburbs of Tea Gardens, Hawks Nest and Mungo Brush.

During the Operation, over 700 random breath tests and eight random drug tests were conducted.

Seven drivers were issued Traffic Infringement Notices for offences including speeding, using a mobile phone when driving and not wearing a seatbelt.

A twenty year old male was issued a Court Attendance Notice for driving with a cancelled licence. Port Stephens-Hunter PD will continue to run similar operations over the school holidays.

Acting Commander

Over the next few weeks, Acting Superintendent Luke Rankin will be taking over the role of Commander in the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District whilst Commander Chad Gillies is on annual leave.

“I’d just like to quickly wish all our locals and their families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

“Hopefully 2022 will be a lot more positive given all we have been through, but on behalf of all the police here at the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District, I wish you a safe holiday period,” Commander Gillies said.

Bulahdelah Man Hit

On 13 December, Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked by Ambulance New South Wales to Bulahdelah to reports of a 49-year-old male pedestrian being hit by a vehicle.

Local Ambulance Paramedics and Emergency Services attended the scene and commenced treatment of the male prior to the arrival of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and Critical Care Medical Team.

The male was treated and stabilised by the Critical Care Medical Team before being flown directly to the John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle in a serious but stable condition suffering from spinal injuries.

Save Triple Zero for Emergencies

As the lead up to Christmas and New Year’s approaches, the NSW Police force urge residents to only use 000 for emergencies or life-threatening situations which require an immediate police response.

The Police Assistance Line 131 444 is for non-emergency situations, to make police reports and for police related general enquiries.
