WARRINA Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Services Co-operative, a frontline domestic violence service in Coffs Harbour, has secured an additional $360,000 for much-needed improvements to the facility.

Charlotte Young, CEO, told News Of The Area, “Warrina is the recipient of a grant to improve the accommodation of women and children residing at the refuge.

“The grant funding will enable us to modify an existing building into two units to support women with children who may have special needs and are challenged by living communally in the refuge.”

This is a one-off grant to be used to fund new or improved infrastructure.

Gurmesh Singh, Member for Coffs Harbour said, “Warrina Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Services Co-operative Ltd is a recipient of the COVID-19 Sexual, Domestic and Family Violence Infrastructure Grant Program funded by the Federal Government.

“Frontline workers on the Coffs Coast are putting in a colossal effort to help people at risk of domestic, family and sexual violence during the pandemic and ongoing recovery period,” he said.

“This funding will help to protect more women and children in our local community who suffer from violence and abuse by enhancing frontline support available to them.”

Warrina Domestic & Family Violence Specialist Services provides a range of services across the Coffs Harbour, Bellingen and Nambucca local government areas and the Mid-North Coast district for women and their children who have experienced domestic and family violence.

“We recognise that every woman’s experience is different.

“Our support services are available to women regardless of race, age, ability, sexual orientation or gender identity.”

Warrina’s commitment is to provide specialist information and support to Aboriginal women, women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, LGBTIQ people, women with disability, older women, children and young people.

Information is also available for friends and family supporting someone in domestic and family violence.
