Waratah Slimmers Have Been Losing In Lockdown FEATURED Nelson Bay (Tomaree Peninsula areas) Port Stephens LGA Port Stephens News by News Of The Area - Modern Media - July 7, 2020 Some of the Waratah Slimmers out getting active together. IN April, along with NSW and the rest of Australia our local, “Waratah Tomaree Slimmers Group” were forced to cease their weekly get togethers at the “Soldiers Point Bowling Club” where each Wednesday evening they meet to weigh in, to discuss health and weight loss issues, and to arrange walks and social outings. Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au During the lockdown it was arranged for everyone, who wished to, to weigh themselves at home or at a chemist, then text their weekly weight to be recorded. By doing this it was hoped this would help to keep our Slimmers on track to achieve a healthy weight, during isolation. Colleen Sessions told News Of The Area, “At the end of the month a gift, (jar of local honey) was awarded to the person who lost the most weight.” With the easing of restrictions, The Waratah Slimmers have recently returned to the Soldiers Point Bowling Club on Wednesday evenings, for regular weigh-ins and a short supportive discussion on healthy eating. A social walk was recently enjoyed in Nelson Bay, with coffee afterwards. The next social outing will be a visit to the The Botanic Gardens in Heatherbrae on Saturday 11 July. The slimmers also have planned trips to the Tilligerry Wetlands, and a visit to Oakvale Farm coming up. ‘Iso kilos’ have caused plenty of problems across the nation and now is the time to strike if you would like to shift a few kilos in a friendly and non-judgemental group joining the Waratah Slimmers could be the first step towards a new you. “We are currently welcoming new and returning members who feel they may benefit from lively self-help discussions, weekly weight checks, incentive prizes and raffles, all at a low joining fee,” she said.
