ARCH – Animal Rescue Coffs Harbour – our local not-for-profit animal rescue group, is competing for public votes alongside contenders in Bobin and Forster.

ARCH is solely dedicated to rescuing and re-homing animals who are facing euthanasia if they are not found a foster carer and then adoption to their forever home.

Established in 2013, ARCH is completely run by volunteers.

There is a board committee as well as members that support their activities and objectives.

All of our funding comes from donations and adoption fees and all money raised goes to meeting the ARCH objectives.

Primarily these are veterinary costs for animals in their care.

Veronika, funding volunteer at ARCH, told News Of The Area what ARCH would use the money for if they win the votes this month.

“The funds from the Community Funding Program would go towards our vet bill.

“ARCH relies on the funding we receive through donations, adoption fees and fundraising to help cover the costs of the veterinary care we provide to all our rescues.

“All our rescues are microchipped (legal requirement), vaccinated (to protect against infectious diseases) and desexed (to prevent more unwanted litters).”

ARCH also makes sure they are treated for worms, fleas and ticks.

These are the standard vet procedures each of the rescue animals receive.

“That does not include the additional treatments, medications, surgeries needed by some of the cats and dogs that come into our care,” she said.

“ARCH is run by volunteers and supported by our wonderful foster carers – we always need more foster carers.

“All the rescues that come into our care are placed directly into foster care homes – we do not have kennels.

“Without our foster carers we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.

“By placing the rescues in foster care we are able to provide a safe and secure home environment from the start.

“This helps them socialise with humans and other animals that may live in the home, providing additional health/medical care if needed, and it also helps us learn about their personalities so we can then find them the right forever home.”
