“We had 292 registered golfers, but many of those came with partners, so we had well over 300 people here throughout the week,” General Manager Greg Acret told News Of The Area.

The sun shone down for the five day event, great for the golfers, but the long hot summer has proved challenging for the greenkeepers.

“The greens staff have really had their hands full keeping the course looking its best because of the hot dry weather,” David said.

The Veterans Week Championship is restricted to visiting golfers only.

“Many of our own Veterans who play on Tuesdays and Thursdays volunteer their services to the event, but they don’t play.”

And businesses in Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens also enjoy the boost the golfers give to local coffers.

David Acret said, “What people do is book for next year before they leave here this year.”

A sentiment echoed by Central Coast golfer, Bruce Barron who’s been coming to the Veterans for the past 6 years.

“It’s great, we just have the best time.”
