Valla Expressions Art Show raising funds for community projects

VALLA Expressions Art Show opened its doors for the fifth year in a row on Saturday 1 January, running until Sunday 9 January 2022 at the Valla Beach Hall.

Ten local artists’ works were featured at the art show.

Different mediums of art were represented, ranging from metal sculptures, ceramics, wood carvings through to painting, jewellery and photography.

Event organisers Tracey Suter and Lyn Walsh informed News Of The Area the opening day was a huge success with over 100 people attending.

Lyn said, “I would like to give a huge thank you to the Valla Beach community and visitors who supported and enjoyed Valla Expressions for the fifth year.

“It delighted everyone who passed by the metal sculpture, ringing the bell on their way into the hall.

“The ‘wow’ factor was there in spades with such a variety of artwork, both 2D and 3D on display,” Lyn said.

Owing to Covid safe practices, the attendees were shown through the gallery in groups to view the creative works on display.

Each artist pays a commission on the sales from their work, and this goes back to fund community infrastructure projects being completed by the Valla Beach Community Association.

Examples of current projects are the redesigning of Anderson Park, with a bike track and climbing wall to come, and a new stage for the Valla Reserve.

This stage will be a permanent structure and available for the community to use.

Lyn told News Of The Area about the teamwork the artists demonstrated when setting up the show this year.

“The artists get together in teams and complete different tasks that need to be done,” Lyn said.

“This could be washing the windows and floors, or organising the hanging spaces.

“They all get on really well, it is so good to see the teamwork.”

Artists exhibiting at Valla Expressions were Alf Blakey (metal sculpture), Christine Campbell (painting and ceramics), Peta Coe (painting), Lorraine Francis (painting), Chris Hewgill (photography), Torben Jensen (wood carving), Michaela Kloeckner (ceramics), Tracey Super (fine furniture), Karen Tollan (jewellery) and Lyn Walsh (ceramics).
