For an artist, a themed show is a chance to revel in pure creativity: to follow a concept where it will lead without focusing on commercial concerns. It’s a chance to play and expand technically and creatively. When pondering what theme to set for this exhibition Adrienne chose the single word ‘Borderline’, a word that she personally felt would inspire literal, psychological, and emotional responses by the artists. “I knew it would be broadly interpreted, giving the artists freedom to explore a myriad of ideas and directions with their artworks,” Adrienne said. “The selected artists were chosen because I respect and admire their art and art practices,” said Adrienne. “They are highly acclaimed in their individual discipline and this show exhibits the extraordinary diversity, both in the media used and conceptually, of the work they have produced.” Freedom Summers from Repton told News Of The Area (NOTA), “I have responded to the theme using sculpture, photography and line. “The borderline I propose in my work is in the deeper realm of existence, where lies the border between awareness and form. “It is an abstract response to the space within the great mystery.” Commenting to NOTA, Coramba artist Catherine Scarborough said, “Adrienne has taken me under her wing as an emerging artist. “Being invited to be in the Borderline exhibition was very exciting and set in motion a whole body of work considering how to respond to the title. “I am pleased with the results, which are relevant to current affairs and their historical context.” Join the artists on Opening Night on Saturday 9 April from 5pm – 7pm. To browse at your leisure, the exhibition runs from 9 April until 30 April, opening hours 10am – 4pm, seven days a week. Opening hours are 10 – 4, seven days a week at The Art Space, 13 Bonville St, Urunga. It is a not-to-be-missed display of fine arts that is not only original but thought provoking and emotionally powerful.
