SENIORS don’t have to live a dull and boring life.

Members of the Fingal Bay Probus Club are faced with the many options each week to enjoy the fun and friendship.

A recent Friday saw the faithful few on a splendid early morning stroll starting at George Reserve, Salamander Bay, continuing to Soldiers Point, then a final waterfront walk for a welcome coffee at Salamander Jetty.

On the following Monday, at a regular general meeting, a new member was welcomed, Trevor Gray, who received his badge and membership folder from President Rex Sneyd to the applause of all.

After the morning tea break (delicious as always, thanks to Sue Watson and Edith Sneyd) a special guest speaker was Carolyn Virgona, the president of the Port Stephens Community Arts Centre.

This is where two amazing community groups collide.

Some of the members of Fingal Bay Probus Club are also members of the Port Stephens Community Arts Centre where they enjoy the many creative activities provided.

Julia Redlich told News Of The Area, “We also learned about the history of the building, first as part of HMAS Assault in WW2, a migrant hostel, and helping to underline the need for a medical facility in an area with a growing population.

“Thanks to many volunteers, it seems there must have been much art and craft to help the Polyclinic in Kerrigan Street which opened in 1988 and is now the Tomaree Hospital,” she said.

The Fingal Bay Probus Club meets at 9.30am on the second Monday of each month at the Fingal Bay Sports and Recreation Club, 100 Rocky Point Road, Fingal Bay.

New members and visitors are welcome to learn about the club and its activities that include wine and dine events, walking for pleasure, barbecues, coffee mornings and wine appreciation time.
