COVID-19 has sadly forced the cancellation of another one of the Coffs Coast’s key sporting events.

With international travel restrictions to and from Australia in place for at least another six months, Golf NSW in conjunction with the Australian Ladies Professional Golf (ALPG) and the Ladies European Tour (LET) made the difficult decision to cancel next year’s edition of the Geoff King Motors Australian Ladies Classic – Bonville.

Bonville Golf Resort general manager Brad Daymond said the cancellation of the 2021 tournament was on the cards since the outbreak of the global pandemic.

“The decision to cancel is completely understandable as our wonderful field of female golf professionals come from 34 different countries and all of the lead-in tournaments including the Vic Open and the Australian Open had already been cancelled, so we expected this outcome,” Daymond said.

“We look forward to welcoming them back in 2022.”

Despite the loss of next year’s event, Ladies European Tour CEO Alexandra Armas said she’s just like the team at Bonville in that she’s hopeful of seeing the tournament back on the LET calendar in 2022.

“Our players have become used to starting their season in Australia, so it was an extremely difficult decision for us to break an established tradition,” Ms Armas said.

“We have a long-standing relationship with the ALPG and are building a strong foundation for the future with Golf NSW, which we will continue to nurture for many years to come. We look forward to building on the success of this year and returning in 2022.”
