Trail runners race at Ulong

Over 200 runners participated in the event with 44 completing the long 50 kilometre ultramarathon.

THE Coffs Trail Runners hosted the second Rumble in the Jungle Trail Run at Ulong on Sunday 6 August.

Runners travelled from across NSW and QLD to participate in the event exploring the rainforest and waterfalls of Bindarri National Park.

Distances range from a one kilometre kids run all the way up to a 50 kilometre ultramarathon.

Over 200 runners participated in the event with 44 completing the long 50 kilometre ultramarathon.

Event Director Keelan Birch spoke about the success of the event.

“The weather was fantastic for running and the support from the local community was amazing.

“We had massive support from a number of sponsors who really helped take the event to the next level.

“We had a new 50 kilometre, 30 kilometre and one kilometre kids race which were all well received.

“It is great to see the Coffs Trail Runners community continue to grow as well as showcasing beautiful areas in the Coffs Harbour hinterland.

“Local runners featured strongly across all distances with a number placing in the top three including Daniel Stein (1st male 50km), Clare Palmer (1st female 50km), Melissa Bulloch (1st female 30km), Lauren Hodge (2nd female 30km), Peter Feain (2nd male 21km), Matty Champness (3rd male 21km), Rainee Herron (2nd female 21km), Annabelle Swainston (1st female 8km), Kristie Peel (2nd female 8km) and Rourke Armstrong (3rd male 8km).

The event organiser extended a special thankyou to the sponsors, volunteers, landowners and the local community up at Ulong.

The Coffs Trail Runners will host the third Rumble in the Jungle on Sunday 4 August 2024 at Ulong.

Their next event is the Washpool World Heritage Trails on Sunday 24 March 2024.
