Bulahdelah slowly clawed their way back, scoring a win in the 15’s in a closely contested game, with Tameka Driske named the player of the match. Another standout performance of the day came from 13-year old Tea Gardens goalkeeper, Connor Walker. The Bulahdelah Ladies team proved too strong for the Sharks, easily scoring the win, with the player of the match awarded to Chloe Lamborn. With Tea Gardens leading the competition three games to two, a win in the men’s game was needed to secure the origin title. But the Bullets came out strongly, with outstanding performances from Jai Laver, Dave Sibert and Man of the Match, Nathan Hanley. Goalkeeper Rhys Dawes was another standout, pulling off some good saves to help the team score the win. With the Sharks and Bullets tied on three games each at the final whistle, a draw was declared for the first time in local origin history. Bulahdelah Soccer Club Secretary, Steve Locke, said the friendly competition was about having fun. “It is a fun day between the two clubs, they are great games, and it is good getting the oldies back to have a run,” Steve said. “It is all about sharing, getting together and promoting the fun of sport.” Steve said the Town Of Origin has been running for 14 years, with the success of the competition a result of the camaraderie and friendship between the teams. “A lot of the players that have moved away to Sydney or Newcastle come back each year to play and catch up with their mates,” Steve said. “It about friendship and club spirit, it is not really a competition, just a fun day.” The 2017 Town Of Origin was hosted by Bulahdelah Soccer Club.
