One such team based in Medowie is striving to take out next month’s State Cup, and considering their recent success, they have every chance of doing so. After taking out the Hunter Premier Touch competition last season, the mixed team comprising of six women and eight men, ranging in age from 19 to over 35, has had a successful 2016. Or media@newsofthearea.com.au Or CLICK FOR ADVERT QUOTE After finishing runners-up at regional level, the plucky Medowians went on to claim the Country Championship, a feat that has now seen them ranked third for the upcoming State Cup. “Winning the Country Champs was unexpected so we’ve lost the underdogs tag now,” team member Jamie McSpadden told News Of The Area. “But if we’re going to match it with the top three or four teams in the State, we’re going to have to play to our potential.” “But in saying that, the team is looking forward to State Cup and the challenges that they will face to be crowned State Cup champions,” Mr McSpadden said “The team has so much raw ability and talent that it has the potential to win the title this year and we’ll hopefully bring the cup back to Medowie.” The State Cup, with over 250 teams competing including 42 teams in the mixed category, will be held at Port Macquarie during the first weekend of December.
