Now seeking to enrol more mentors, Georgia told News Of The Area, “Being both a mentor and mentee has given me a rare opportunity of experiencing both sides of AIME mentoring.

“I know for a fact that mentors will thoroughly enjoy their experience and learn important leadership skills that develop their ability to help children who need it the most.”

Mentoring with AIME for five years, Parul Punjabi Jagdish will be working closely with Georgia to recruit new mentors.

“After the last tumultuous year, AIME is back in business, currently working with three schools in the area and looking to build upon this when COVID restrictions ease, meaning we will need more mentors,” Parul told News Of The Area.

“Mentoring is always a two-way street – you get a lot more out of it than you can ever offer.

“But every now and then, you put your head up and look around the room and know for certain that youngsters’ lives have changed trajectory simply by your being there as a Mentor, and there is no experience more satisfying than that.”

For 16 years, AIME has used mentoring in high schools, up and down the Coffs Coast, to alleviate educational inequity and build bridges through knowledge sharing.

Today there are plenty of ways to help, says Parul.

“Mentoring is open to anyone who can commit to one hour a fortnight for the school year.

“We are always open to partnerships for collaboration whether it be for post-school pathway opportunities for our students, working with creatives and industry professionals or participating in our Tutoring and IMAGI-NATION (FACTORY) Days.”

Schools are also invited to partner with AIME which includes teacher development opportunities to learn AIME’s tried and tested methodology and curriculum.
