From the Nelson Bay Croquet Club to help Keep Senior Citizens Active, which will build two new croquet courts, to fencing for the Birubi Point Community Pre-School those at all stages of life living on the peninsula have benefited from the grants program.

The Port Stephens Cricket Club will benefit from a new roller, and The PCYC will benefit from a project entitled Bathroom Blitz for Females.

The Shoal Bay Public School’s Parents and Citizens Association has gained $6000 which will refurbish the schools’ library and the Salamander Bay Childcare Centre will build an outdoor undercover learning area in the new year.

While the Port Stephens Community Arts Centre will undertake a $40,000 extension to the Woodworking Shed.

Kate Washington Port Stephens Member of Parliament said, ““Since I was elected, I’ve been pleased to provide more than $422,000 to local community groups in the Bay area, and approximately $900,000 across Port Stephens to improve local infrastructure. There was a large amount of competition this year between lots of really worthwhile projects, and I look forward to receiving even more applications next year.”

Phillip Ross the Manager of Port Stephens PCYC told News Of The Area, “Programs at the centre depend on adequate facilities and the women’s facilities were long overdue for a renovation.”

He believes that with better facilities the centre will be utilised by more Groups.

“In 2018 we intend to have day and night programs running, at present we offer gymnastics, boxing, martial arts and other sporting activities, it is essential that we are able to offer up to date and adequate facilities,” he said.
