Or media@newsofthearea.com.au Or CLICK FOR ADVERT QUOTE The two days include the students swimming carnivals and a day of guest speakers who addressed motivation, study skills, family planning, drug and alcohol awareness, and domestic violence. The days are delivered separately to the girls and boys. Football Great and past Newcastle Knight Michael Hagan was the motivational guest speaker, he told News Of The Area, “I’m speaking on the importance of chasing your dreams and what you are passionate about.” While he was referring in his presentation, to his rugby league career, he also spoke to the girls about his daughters and their careers. “I believe that it is important to shape values early on, and if you know what you want to be or do, go for it,” he said. School Captain Andrew Fletcher said, “It was really good, Michael Hagan talked about how important it is to work as a team.” The session focused on motivation, the importance of a support network and setting goals. Elevate Education presented a session to the students focusing on effective study skills, they also delivered a session on study skills for parents. The importance of sexual health and contraception were addressed by Family Planning NSW, with the importance of using condoms to avoid sexually transmitted diseases discussed. Students were given skills to help to keep themselves and their friends safe in relation to drugs and alcohol was also addressed. Respect was an important part of the targeted White Ribbon workshops with the important issue of domestic violence and what healthy relationships look like highlighted. Senior students also participated in a work placement workshop. The 24U Days are more than motivation and creating a focus on wellbeing.
