Member for Paterson Meryl Swanson was in attendance along with Mayor Ryan Palmer and members of the rebranded Tomaree Business Chamber.

Meryl Swanson said, “What excites me about this chamber is the way that the collaborations are coming together.”

Chamber President Leah Anderson told News Of The Area, “The Chamber has been advocating for business across the local government area and it was time for us to acknowledge this within our brand.

“The new business directory allows businesses to leverage from our search engine optimisation and assists member businesses to support each other,” she said.

Mayor Ryan Palmer addressed the room acknowledging the contribution of the business chamber to the community.

In particular he highlighted the Anna Bay 7 Day make-over which has been such a success that the Council plans to roll out further make-over projects in other town centres with Medowie slated as the next township to benefit from the creation of better town amenity.

The chambers precinct by precinct approach is seeing gardens growing in the CBD of Nelson Bay which was the site of the Chambers first volunteer driven community working bee.

The fruits of these labours are now much more visible with mature gardens brightening the township.

The Chamber is keen to offer support to businesses across the local government area particularly in areas such as advocacy.

In recent times the Chamber has worked with Council and Government to secure the TAFE Connect Learning Centre on the Tomaree Peninsula.

They are also proud of their achievements in lobbying council to demolish the Donald Street East Carpark and increase amenity in Nelson Bay.

They have also been working with Council to attain funding to develop street dining and greater outdoor amenity which will assist in boosting business whilst creating a more COVID-19 safe environment.

Chamber is hoping this boost will assist with the influx of domestic tourists which the township is experiencing most weekends.
