TOMAREE Breast Cancer Support Group recently held its 15th annual In the Pink Breakfast raising funds to support women living with breast cancer.

Guests came from far and wide dressing in pink to show their support of those in need.

The Breakfast is the group’s major annual fundraiser and and attracted 315 guests who were greeted with a glass of bubbly on arrival at Nelson Bay Bowling Club before enjoying a lovely breakfast.

The auditorium of Nelson Bay Bowling Club looked amazing decked out in all shades of pink.

President of the group, Taurie Lalor welcomed the guests and was MC for the morning.

Guest speaker Melissa Histon, 2017 Newcastle Woman of the Year, was very inspiring. Melissa told of how her breast cancer diagnosis changed her life for the better leading to the formation of the Sista Code, an online community of 16,000 women who empower other women from around the globe.

This year Melissa established the charity Got Your Back Sista which supports women in Newcastle area who have left violent relationships to set up their own home.

Bev Apps the breakfast coordinator told News Of The Area, “$10,853 was raised which will go towards supporting residents of the Tomaree Peninsula diagnosed with breast cancer.”

“The generosity of the local businesses who donated raffle prizes was tremendous once again, and we can’t thank them and the Nelson Bay Bowling Club enough for their ongoing support,” she said.

The 16th In the Pink Breakfast is set down for 17 October 2018, but the year is not over for the ladies, with members of the group driving patients to Newcastle for treatment right up until Christmas time.

The next patient Morning Tea, which is funded by the group, will be the Christmas one, on 30 November at Siennas in Nelson Bay.
