IT’S that time of year again to register to get together with a few friends, family members or work colleagues and host an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea event to raise money for cancer.

For 28 years, the Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea has brought together millions of Australians over a cup of tea in support of those affected by cancer.

In 2021, the official day to host a morning tea is Thursday 27 May, however participants can register now to host a morning tea any time throughout May or June.

Participants are encouraged to host Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea their way, whether it’s at home with friends or family, a simple morning tea in the office with workmates, virtually (COVID-19 style) or a gathering in the local community or at school.

Cancer Council’s Community Relations Coordinator Brittany Raven said the Cancer Council was fortunate to receive support from the community through events like Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.

“We have hosts across the country who have supported us for over 28 years, this generosity enables us to continue our work in cancer research, prevention programs, advocacy and support services,” Ms Raven said.

“Cancer affects people in so many ways and impacts every community in Australia, with over 138,000 Australians estimated to be diagnosed with cancer this year.

“It’s vitally important that those affected can access suitable support services, such as Cancer Council 13 11 20 Information and Support Line, accommodation, counselling and peer support programs.”

Cancer Council’s services help Australians affected by cancer, providing vital support when they need it most and making every stage of their cancer journey easier.

One Australian is diagnosed with cancer approximately every five minutes, the length of an average tea break.

This year, Cancer Council hopes to recruit over 20,000 generous morning tea hosts, and raise more than $7 million nationally to help everyone affected by cancer right across Australia.
