This could include upgrading existing facilities, the introduction of new community services, or funding for sporting infrastructure or equipment. To assist with the application process, MidCoast Council Community Development Coordinator Lyndie Hepple, led a workshop in Tea Gardens last week. Lyndie said in the first round of funding allocated in November last year, 17 community projects were selected from 76 applications across the region. The successful projects ranged from boatsheds and community gardens, to hall refurbishments and exercise trails. During the workshop, Lyndie stressed the need for applications to address all criteria points to be considered. Similar sessions have been held in Taree, Forster and Gloucester. “The workshops have been generating quite a bit of interest with about 20 people at each,” Lyndie told News Of The Area. “By the reaction, I can see there has been a great response to the collaboration, which has allowed people to get a better understanding of the process.” The Stronger Communities Funds come from a one-off allocation to merged councils, made available through the NSW Government’s ’Fit For the Future’ reform program. Applications for the final round of funding close on 9 June, 2017. “Get them in as early as possible, and don’t leave it to the last few days,” Lyndie said.
