THE executive of the Tilligerry RSL Sub Branch was annoyed recently when out-of-town fund raisers moved into their territory soliciting money for the RSL.

President Noel Cartwright told News Of The Area, “We have had bad publicity lately with the sacking of the State RSL Executive and now we have a marketing company moving in and trading on our good name.”

“Locals can be assured that funds raised by us stay with us for the betterment of local veterans and their widows. We need your continuing support,” he said.

One such local who sings their praise is former 20 year service veteran Reg Bonney.

For some ten years now he has been struck down by a debilitating medical condition which restricts his mobility.

“I would not have my electric scooter had it not been for the efforts of the local sub-branch,” he said.

“In particular I’d like to thank Noel, Mick Purdon and Jim Horton along with Dr Philip Haines for assisting with the paperwork  involved in my application. They steered me in the right direction. Matthew Bartlett from the DVA who manages my case has been a great help as well,” he said.

“With my ‘Road Runner’ I have mobility and independence. It remains the property of the DVA but I have use of it for as long as I need it,” he added.

“I just can’t thank these local people enough for changing my life.”
