TILLIGERRY Habitat was the location for the successful candidates forum last week.

Present at the evening, and ready to take questions on Tilligerry issues, were Mayoral candidate Geoff Dingle, Mayor and Central ward Councillor candidates Ryan Palmer and Steve Tucker, and Central Ward Councillor candidates Jenny Battrick and Sarah Smith.

Geoff Dingle told News Of The Area, “Council needs to restore faith with the Tilligerry community, and work on a number of big issues to show them their community is important to the council.”

“We need to encourage landlords and owners to work with Council to rejuvenate the business centres, and a cycle way between Tanilba, Mallabula and Lemon Tree Passage would do much to make the community further connected.”

“A multipurpose community centre on the Tilligerry Peninsula is also long overdue, with proposals that have been hanging around for years requiring some leadership to make it all happen,” he said.

Ryan Palmer told News Of The Area, “It was a great night at the Tilligerry Habitat with great audience participation.”
“Roads have been a huge issue on the Tilligerry Peninsula and it is about time the issues are put to bed.”

“We also need to ensure that we are doing all we can to engage and look after the youth on the Tilligerry Peninsula, with into youth programs and ensuring that the mental health needs of our youth are looked after.”

Jenny Battrick told News Of The Area, “My aim is to improve the bus interchange at TBPS, with dedicated parking area and stand alone bus area for safety.”

“High on my agenda also is a connected pathway through the peninsula, dedicated Asset Management focus for sports facility upgrades and maintenance with installation of solar powered lighting for security at training areas near the sports complex.”

“Opt in Green Waste Bins, increased operating hours of Waste Depot, and greater facilities for Youth with a drop in centre are also high priority,” she said.

Sarah Smith told News Of The Area, “I see that the Tilligerry area needs council to focus on basic infrastructure like pathways, cycle tracks; work with local committees to maintain public spaces; encourage facilities and employment for our youth; ensure compliance matters are acted upon with regard to buildings, tree removal and developments.”

“I will strive to restore confidence in our council and its decision making processes.”
