THE Coffs Coast Tigers pounced into the fifth round of the FFA CUP with an impressive 5-0 win over the Kempsey Saints at Polwarth Drive.

Two goals from Innocent David and goals from Thomas Mitchell, James Palmer and a Marko Kisose penalty sealed their entry into the next round of the FFA cup.

Tigers goalkeeper and captain Luke Kleindienst was pleased how the team pounced on their opportunities.

“Was an all around good performance, it was good to watch from the back and to see the boys go to work.

“The biggest thing for us has been being clinical in front of goals but last night the boys were very impressive when they got their chances.

“The coaches were pleased to see the team finding their form and bringing consistency to their game, following back to back wins from the weekend against Macleay Valley,” said Kleindienst.

Whilst the goalkeeper was delighted with the Tigers’ finishing it was the clean sheet that pleased coach Luke Stow.

“Happy with the win and to score five goals means the football is good but to keep the other side to nil is more important for me it means we are structurally good as a team.

“We are starting to see the hard work pay off the boys are putting in which I am happy for them.

“The challenge for them now is to be able to keep the intensity up that we are looking for on a week to week basis.

“Also we are still a young team and new players together so as a squad we look to learn from every match and improve each time we take the field,” said Stow.

The Tigers are in a rich vein of form with back to back wins and now look forward to a battle between the big cats as they take on the Lions in a hometown derby as Club President Melessa Bennett explained.

“The midfield held the game and were dominant for the second week running, it was exciting to see Innocent David finding the net again with another two goals bringing him to four goals in the past two matches, we look forward to him improving his form throughout the season.

“Defensively we had a strong game and youngster Taj Buck offered speed and intensity upfront assisting our attack on the goal for much of the match.

“We have a strong opposition next in the FFA cup as we take on the Lions, but as long as we play our game the results can go either way,” said Melessa.
