Three more men charged after police were allegedly assaulted at Shoal Bay Port Stephens

Police have charged a further three men after police were allegedly assaulted at Shoal Bay on the weekend.

Police from Port Stephens Local Area Command were called to Shoal Bay Road about 1.45am (Sunday 16 November 2014), responding to reports that a man was damaging cars in Harwood Avenue.

Police will allege when they attempted to arrest the man a struggle ensued.

When a Taser was deployed, up to nine men intervened and the officers were assaulted. The men then ran from the scene and the officers sought medical treatment.

Yesterday (Tuesday 18 November 2014), three men, aged 19, 24 and 26, were arrested and charged at Nelson Bay Police Station.

The men were each charged two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of resist police.

They were given conditional bail to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday 1 December 2014.

Previously on Sunday 16 November 2014, a 20-year-old man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault police to appear at Raymond Terrace Local court on Monday 1 December 2014.

Investigation into the incident is continuing.
