For many families it’s all about balance, a few paid activities and a host of free things to do is on just about every families to do list.

Of course there’s the wonderful beaches to visit, and if you think you have been to all of them make sure you check off the list as Port Stephens boasts 26 beaches in its pristine waterways.

Ava Maree O’Brien said, “Playing on the beach is great”.

There’s fish to be caught too, but please check out the Marine Park fishing zones prior to casting a line.

If beach swimming is not for you, you can check out Tomaree Aquatic Centre and Lakeside Leisure Centre which are sure to cool things down on a budget.

There are also some wonderful parks with play equipment including a gated accessible park at Little Beach and stimulating adventure parks at Boomerang Park, Boat Harbour and Fingal Beach.

There are free skate parks at Boomerang Park, Anna Bay and Nelson Bay.

You can check out the sculptures at Vantage Estate Corlette and at Soldiers Point Marina where some are larger than life, there are some great photo memory opportunities at these locations.

There’s Tilligerry Habitat which is open from 9am-3pm daily with free entry, Tilligerry Habitat is a great place to walk along the boardwalks and to even spot a koala in the wild if you are lucky.

A visit to the Salamander Bay or Raymond Terrace Libraries will see you and the kids escape into a world of fantasy between the covers of some beautifully written children’s books in cool air conditioned bliss.
