With a focus this week on volunteers, the Irrawang students who honoured their school volunteers deserve recognition.

International Volunteer Day celebrates the frequently unsung work of those who assist without financial gain and Irrawang High School values and appreciates the volunteers who come into their school on a regular basis to assist their students.

Volunteers at the school come in many different forms, and for many different reasons.

Last week, Principal Mr Baxter welcomed volunteers from the school Canteen, P&C, Plan-it-Youth program and the Breakfast Club to a ‘thank you’ three course luncheon.

This very special luncheon was prepared by Chef and TAS teacher Mr Chris Enright, and his Year 12 Hospitality students, along with assistance from Tash Alexander and Mrs Noone.

Mentors and volunteers on the day remarked that the restaurant quality food was amazing.

Students had been planning the event for weeks leading up to it, and spent all morning preparing.

The function will also count towards their Certificate II in Hospitality.

On behalf of the volunteers and mentors, Plan-it-Youth volunteer Jan Noake thanked Mr Enright and the students for such a beautiful three course meal, which was followed by freshly brewed coffees and boutique teas.

Mrs Noake told News Of The Area, “We all volunteer at Irrawang High School because we care about kids and appreciate the fantastic work done at the school, and want to support them.”

“To be thanked in such a way was truly amazing, it was like we had gone to a posh restaurant because the food and service was excellent.”
