Uncle Neville Lilley gave a warm welcome to country inviting all to enjoy the beautiful land of the Worimi.

The announcement of the Port Stephens Annual Awards brought about a fitting closure to the ceremony.

Among a very honourable list of nominees seven members of our community were honoured for their contribution to our region.

Mayor Palmer said, “I want to acknowledge each of our nominees, who have all gone above and beyond for our community, thank you.”

“These people do not do what they do for the credit, they do it because they love our community and they love what they do.”

“It is wonderful to be able to recognise them formally for their contribution to Port Stephens.” said Mayor Palmer.

Citizen of the Year, Ben Niland recognised for his passionate advocacy for Medowie and dedication in all manner of local sports through leadership and sponsorship.

Young Citizen of the Year, Amy Dufour for being an inspirational role model to young citizens of Port Stephens and her significant achievement in sport.

Port Stephens Medal, Lee Anlezark for the optimistic and enthusiastic leadership shown encouraging healthy living, healing and wellbeing to improve the quality of life and health outcomes for those affected by Parkinson’s in our community.

Port Stephens Medal, Michael Murray for contributing his wealth of experience and organisational professionalism to the Port Stephens Suicide Prevention Network, where he has served as the chairperson for the past twelve months.

Port Stephens Medal, Hunter Region Botanic Gardens, maintained by two hundred dedicated volunteers, recognised for their contribution to the appreciation, study, research and enjoyment of horticulture, botany and related fields.

Cultural Endeavour, Michael Francis for his role as a member of the Board of Directors of the Port Stephens Community Arts Centre, an organisation which he has been involved with for over 20 years.

Sportsperson of the Year, Graeme Chamberlain for his volunteer work and roles within the Birubi Point Surf Lifesaving Club, the Tomaree Tri Club and the Nelsons Bay Hash Harriers.
