STEVE and Judy Woods shared in the magic of automobiles with their 1948 MG TC at last week’s launch of the Coffs Coast Festival of Motor Sport.

Steve fell in love with the MG TC from the age of 16 and 56 years later it remains Steve and Judy’s pride and joy.

“I bought the car in 1965 when I started my first job for a cashier company aged 16.

“My mum came home from work and said a girl at the print shop is selling a car so we went to have a look and I fell in love with it.

“It cost 150 British pounds, that was the currency back then, I didn’t have enough money so I borrowed some to pay for it and haven’t looked back since, it’s a lovely car,” said Steve.

Judy Woods affectionately calls the car ‘Tic’ which has been the source of so many memories over almost six decades.

“Steve was driving ‘Tic’ when we first started courting, that was fifty odd years ago, we used to put our three children in the back and drive around, things were different back then, we have so many great memories from this car.

“I called it ‘Tic’ because it makes a ticking sound when you turn the key, it still runs really well, we went to Nana Glen for a picnic in ‘Tic’ last week,” said Judy.

When News Of The Area asked Gurmesh Singh which was his favourite car, he immediately pointed to the 1948 MG TC classic.

“I love classic cars, it gives you that genuine feeling of driving, I am really looking forward to attending the events.

“My love of motor vehicles inspired me to choose my university degree in industrial design, I love the feel of the classics,” said Gurmesh.

There are 12 Motorsport events from Grafton to Kempsey over three weekends which starts with the ‘Massive Motor Show’ on Saturday 13 November that will have everything from a 1948 MG TC to Hot Rods as Coffs Coast Festival of Motor Sport President Bob Carle explained.

“There will be over 400 vehicles on display including vintage, new cars, hot rods, motorbikes and trucks.

“The plan has been over two years in the making and we are trying to fill the void from the World Rally Cross leaving the region.

“The festival will be a great lead up to the final round of the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship on 27-28 November which has a huge online following of over 2.4 billion people.

“It’s an event that families can enjoy and enjoy a holiday with the family on the beautiful coast.

“Being the inaugural event and with the challenges of COVID, we have been overwhelmed by the support and the idea of this Festival.

“All the clubs we approached to run events and the business people who have put their hands in their pockets can see the potential of this event which will give a big boost to the tourism industry,” concluded Bob.
