Event organiser Christine Armour was excited by the results.

She told News Of The Area, “Saying the event was successful is an understatement, we raised $17,020 which for a small community and collective disposable income is a phenomenal effort and someone was looking after us given the weather could not have been more perfect.

There were 188 participants ranging from babies in strollers, dogs to those being pushed in wheelchairs.

“Congratulations Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest you raised over $17,000 for Dementia Australia.”

The response from the community was extremely positive, with the community already looking forward to next year’s event.

Christine believes with the participants from this years event helping to spread the word the 2020 event should be event bigger and raise even more money for Dementia Australia.

Rosemary, who is living with dementia walked beside her husband and adult children.

The family sported bibs indicating they were walking for Rosemary (Mum) and Rosemary’s bib said I am Rosemary.

“It was very touching,” she said.

The event kicked off with a group warm up session which provoked smiles, got people limbered up and put participants in a positive mindset.

Runners, 10 kilometre walkers, and 6 & 2 kilometre walkers set off under bright blue skies to follow the beautiful Myall River.

The event finished at the tennis club a sausage sandwich and cold drinks were in high demand.

The day drew to a close after the drawing of the 25 raffle prize winners.

The event would not have been possible without the support of the event sponsors, raffle prize donors, event volunteers, walkers and joggers and people who bought raffle tickets.
