THE community of Stroud are coming together to ‘Bomb their trees with pom poms’ in an attempt to spread joy through these uncertain times.

The pom pom bomb initiative was started by an art therapist in Newcastle with the idea to support people to be creative, to get outside in the fresh air and to feel connected to one another during a pandemic.

By digging out some wool or string, or even cutting up an old shirt into strips, anyone who wanted to participate was encouraged to start making pom poms and ‘bombing’ local trees.

Now the Stroud community has banded together to bring this initiative to life locally
Stroud resident and MidCoast Councillor Karen Hutchinson told News Of The Area about the process of starting a pom pom bomb.

“I was contacted by a local Day Care business (Katie Gorton) and a local mum (Sam Osborne), and the three of us all discovered this idea on the same day.

“We picked up the idea and just ran with it and now the trees are looking amazing.

“Kids are loving it and adults have joined in too,” Cr Hutchinson said.

The first pom pom bomb was near Stroud Showground, but now other residents in the area have spread the joy to their trees in Limeburners Creek.

Cr Hutchinson reminds all the community members to be mindful of the environment with this project.

“We are conscious of the environment, we ask that if any fall off the tree that they popped back on the tree by whoever finds them.

Even though the community of Stroud is now out of lockdown, Cr Hutchinson confirms that the community art project will continue as a way to connect and spread smiles throughout this time.
