TERRACE Central is spreading acts of kindness through support and care packages for disadvantaged members of the community.

In a new initiative by the centre, care packages including basic staples, breakfast condiments, eggs, milk, tea and coffee, vegemite, milo and essential health items such as hand sanitiser, kitchen wipes, deodorant, soap and toilet paper, are being sent to a range of people unable to make their way to purchase these items.

This act of kindness aims to support the elderly, disadvantaged families and people with disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic, to minimise stress or risk of infection.

Ben Robinson, Terrace Central Centre Management, said the care packs are a way for our retailers to come together and support our community during this challenging time.

“We know our community is suffering right now, with many families being impacted by the government restrictions and vulnerable groups unable to leave their homes.

“We’ve worked with our retailers to find a way to deliver these essential items straight to our communities in need, and we will continue to deliver these care packs to homes across Port Stephens throughout September.

“If our community can’t visit us then we’ll bring the centre to them,” he said.

One of the recipients of the care packs was local resident Bec Beattie who is currently isolating during lockdown with her three kids.

“I nearly cried when they brought the food to me.

“I am still speechless.

“It’s very important we support each other, we’re all in this together and we can all do our part and keep our town safe for the next generation,” Beattie said.

Mr Robinson proudly believes that, although this is only a small gesture, it is a way to continue supporting the Port Stephens community during such a challenging time.
