Group leader Ralph Francis said that the ‘learn by doing’ scouting principle formed the basis of their activities. “It’s all about developing physical and mental awareness, independence, responsibility, social skills and initiative,” he said. “Many of these children haven’t been away from home before so they will have to rely on themselves and their friends to get by,” he added. “Some will find it hard as iPods, mobiles and other electronic devices are banned.” “We plan bush walking around the foreshore and across to the water tower as well as an inspection of the ‘Habitat’ nature reserve,” he told News Of The Area. “Unfortunately, the total fire ban will prevent us having our planned campfire but we will have a mock one and cook our food in the kitchen at the hall.” By Geoff WALKER
