TUESDAY 30 August: The semi finals of the Club Championship Triples was the main event of the day.

Four teams, playing 18 ends, each bowler playing their best shots to secure a spot in the finals on Thursday.

The team consisting of Julie Kennedy, Sheril Johnson and Anne MacKenzie defeated Bev Stephens, Lily Smith and Dale Winter 20 to 10.

Only two points separated these teams on the 10th end but Anne’s team scored 5 points on the 11th end which changed the course of the game and saw them the victors at the end of the day’s play.

In the other game  Kathy Stone, Wendy Jones and Olive McKeown had a substantial lead of 7 shots at the finish of the 11th end but Liz Kelly’s team of Karen McPhie and Robyn Webster fought back and were 2 shots ahead after the 14th end.

Olive’s team played some great bowls and were the winners with a final score 21 to 13.

Thanks to Kathie Rimmer for umpiring the games. Social bowls was also played the format for the day one game of triples and two games of fours.

The winners of the day with a win plus ends were Francis Betar, Pam Gilchrist and Lorraine  Harvey.

Thursday 1st September: A perfect spring day for the playing of the finals of the Club Championship Triples.

A good crowd of spectators witnessed a great day of bowling. The two teams competing were Kathy Stone, ( this was Kathy’s first attempt at competition bowls), Wendy Jones and Olive McKeown versus Julie Kennedy, Sheril Johnson and Anne  Mackenzie.

Olive’s team was in the lead at the 3rd end then some tight bowling from Anne’s team resulted in six shots, giving them an overall lead of three, a margin that the team managed to hold onto and increase despite some impressive bowling from Olive’s team.

After the 16th end the winning margin was 11 but Olive’s team sent down some great shots scoring 7 points for the last two ends.

The final score Anne Mackenzie’s team 20 defeating Olive McKeown’s team 16.

Thanks Vicki Rankin for umpiring and  Karen Green for being the controlling body.   Social bowls winners were Kerry Faber, Dorothy Thompson, Karen Green and Maynie Roberts for a win plus ends.

Everyone joined in to wish Maynie Roberts happy birthday and congratulations for her 58th wedding anniversary.
