THURSDAY 3rd May: Final of the Club Championship Major Singles. Dale Winter v Lorraine Murphy. What a great final it was. Lorraine leading in the early stages of the match but Dale sent down some magnificent bowls and took control of events, gaining a significant lead. The score was 24 v 12 Dale just requiring 1 more point to be declared the Club Major Single Champion for 2018. Lorraine obviously had other ideas and kept Dale scoreless for the next 3 ends but that elusive point was finally achieved. Final score 25 v 19. Congratulations Dale. A final to be remembered by all present. A great job of Marking by Club President Robyn Webster. Thanks to Controlling Body Francis Betar.

Following the final everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch catered for by the club restaurant Myall Bistro and Café.
Tuesday 8th May: Social bowls played 3 games of Fours. The winners on the day winning with the highest margin were Dorothy Thompson, Ingrid Luck, Pam Gilchrist and Deyonne Page 23 v Francis Betar, Jeanette Emmett, Sheril Johnson and Karen McPhie 7. TGWBC hosted Round 1 of the Newcastle District Senior Fours Competition.

Thursday 8th May: No social bowls played. Lynda Richards, Kerry Faber, Loretta Baker and Kayelene Pearson headed down to Heaton Birmingham Gardens representing the Club in the Newcastle District Senior Fours Competition. Our team put in a great effort the score 18 all on the completion of the 21st end, resulting in another end having to be played to determine a winner. Unfortunately it was Soldiers Point who were the victors 22 v 18.

On a sad note I have to report the passing of our member Anne MacKenzie. Anne joined TGWBC in August 1993 and has remained a member of our club despite ill health preventing her from bowling for a number of months.

Anne’s achievements include Club President 2006 – 2008 ( inclusive) and again in 2010. She was Skip in the winning teams for the Club Championship Triples 1993 and 2016, the Fours 1999 and 2004 and Minor Singles Winner 2000. Rest in Peace Anne.
