Thursday 9th August: Round 2 of the Major Pairs. A “neck to neck” battle between Pam Gilchrist and Lynda Richards v Sheril Johnson and Julie Kennedy. On the 16th end, only a 1 shot difference. Sheril and Julie scored 5 shots on the next end. With only 1 end left to bowl Pam and Lynda needed to gain 7 points to be winners. That didn’t happen, they went down 16 v 20. Carol Hayden and Jill McBride lost to Lorraine Murphy and Maynie Roberts 8 v 24. Bette Saillard and Dale Winter were down by 10 shots to Wendy Brand and Elizabeth Kelly on the 14th end. Over the next 2 ends they narrowed this lead to 5, meaning they were still in with a chance. Victors Wendy and Elizabeth 20 v 15.

The final game, Jean Glover and Karen McPhie v Robyn Beaumont and Kayelene Pearson. Robyn and Kayelene were last years winners of this competition. On the 6th end 6 all, 7th end Robyn and Kayelene 1 shot ahead. That was the last time they held the lead, Jean and Karen forged ahead, winning by 4 shots. Final score 18 v 14.
