Tea Gardens Women’s Bowling Club

Tuesday 4 April: Very strong south to south easterly winds proved a challenge for most bowlers today, but everyone was happy just to be out playing a game of bowls finally.

Two bowls “turnaround triples” was the format for play.

Great fun, the lead finally getting an opportunity to play skip and given the chance to tell the skip where to place the mat, where to send the jack to, which hand to play.

Then the lead, playing second and then skip.

Now having to dodge all those bowls that are in front of the jack in an effort to win and having to play with both hands suddenly when you prefer your forehand or backhand, realising life as a lead isn’t too bad after all.

Turnaround triples gives players the opportunity to try bowling at a different level, a good learning tool.

The winners were Ingrid Luck, Jean Glover and Olive McKeown.

Thursday 6 April: Only a small group of bowlers today, which is expected during Pennant Season.

Seven players only, a game of Fours was played with Ingrid Luck playing lead for both teams.

A very competitive game was played by both teams, Jill McBride’s team being beaten up until the 17th end when they equalled Lorraine Harvey’s score of 18.

The final end resulted in a win for Ingrid Luck, Jean Glover, Dianne Kiss and Jill McBride 21 v Ingrid Luck, Veronica Conaghan, Lynda Richards and Lorraine Harvey 18.

Thanks to Carol Hayden and Margaret Smith and the other ladies who are holding “the fort” together while our other members are busy playing Pennants.

Pennant update: On Thursday 30 March our Grade 3 team was to have played Lambton Park Red at Tea Gardens but rain prevented play from proceeding.

This game did go ahead at Raymond Terrace Bowling Club (undercover facilities).

Our team had a good win defeating Lambton Park Red 56 v 29, gaining the maximum 5 points for this win.

Well done ladies. The Grade 2 team had a bye.

3 April, Round 6: Grade 2 had an impressive win over Raymond Terrace 65 v 21, also giving them 5 points.

Grade 3 had a bye.

4 April, Round 7: Grade 2 scored 47 defeating Soldiers Point Yellow 39. Grade 3 lost 27 to Lowlands 43. 6th April, Round 8: Grade 2 scored 37 (15.5) Soldiers Point Blue 47 (19.5) and Grade 3 were also defeated in their game against Edgeworth 40 (13.5) v Tea Gardens 34 (12.5).

Still six rounds remaining of the Pennant Season with home games scheduled for 11, 13, 18 and 27 April.

For anyone interested Sunday Bowls is back in action.

Be there by 9.30am for 10.00am start. New players need to be there by 9.15am, all welcome.
