TUESDAY 29 August: The final of the Club Championship Triples was played as well as social bowls.
What a great contest this was, between six very accomplished bowlers.

Bev Rhodes, Wendy Brand and Elizabeth Kelly bowled against Robyn Beaumont, Maynie Roberts and Kayelene Pearson. Elizabeth’s team held a narrow lead from the start, by the 11th end they were ahead by 8 shots.

Kayelene’s ladies dominated the next 4 ends scoring 8 shots, equalising the score.

The 16th end resulted in 1 shot to Elizabeth’s team then 3 more gained on the 17th end, this gave them a 4 shot lead.
At this stage all spectators thought things were “done and dusted”.

Kayelene’s team had other ideas and on the 18th (final end), they scored 4 shots, once again levelling the score.

Another end had to be played to determine a winner. Neither side ever gave up in this final and when the last bowl was delivered the Umpires had to be called to measure for the winning shot.

The winners of the Club Championship Triples 2017 by 1 shot were Bev Rhodes, Wendy Brand and Elizabeth Kelly.
Great bowling by all competitors.

Thanks to the Controlling Body Francis Betar, Umpires Nola Jackson and Karen Green.

Unfortunately due to overcast, cold and windy conditions there was not a good turn up for social bowls.
The format for play was a game of Pairs and a game of Triples.

A good win to Jeanette Emmett, Bev Stephens and Lynne Green 23 v Jean Glover, Dorothy Thompson and Pat Baker 8.
Pam Gilchrist and Carol Hayden 21 defeated Sheril Johnson and Lynda Richards 16.

The winners for social bowls decided on 10 for a win and 1 for each end were Jeanette, Bev and Lynne. Prior to play everyone joined in to wish Maynie Roberts happy birthday.

Great to see Jeanette Emmett and Verlie Gray back at bowls.

Following the final everyone enjoyed a terrific lunch thanks to the hard work of our Social Committee Dale Winter, Bette Saillard, Dorothy Dallas and Ingrid Luck. Get well soon, Dot Montgomery.

Thursday 31 August: Last day of winter, hopefully weather conditions will improve.

Social bowls was played 2 games of Pairs and a game of Triples.

Due to the SE/SW winds blowing at 20 to 30km/h, the 15 degrees Celsius temperature and the light showers of rain, all players opted to play 12 ends, instead of the designated 18 ends.

The results of play were Lynne Green and Verlie Gray 14 v Nola Jackson and Dorothy Thompson 7.

Dianne Kiss and Carol Hayden 13 v Bev Rhodes and Sandra Leisemann 11.

Francis Betar, Pam Gilchrist and Lynda Richards 10 v Ingrid Luck, Robyn Webster and Kerry Faber 8.

Kerry bowled well as Skip, a position in bowls she usually declines.

The winners on the day with the lowest winning score were Francis Betar, Pam Gilchrist and Lynda Richards.

Next week four team of Fours will be competing in the Newcastle District Spring Carnival which is held on the 4th, 5th and 7th September. Social bowls will still be played on Tuesday and Thursday of that week. Sunday mixed bowls on the 10th September play to commence 1000.
