This has been a thrilling event both for the spectators and the competitors. The finalists, Maynie Roberts versus Robyn Beaumont, are two very talented bowlers. Maynie attempting to win her tenth title for this particular competition. At the finish of the second end the score was equal. By the 7th end Maynie had a lead of six shots but Robyn delivered some great bowls narrowing Maynie’s lead to just two shots by the start of the 10th end. The final score at the 21st end, Maynie 25 v Robyn 14 does not describe the calibre of bowling. Congratulations to Maynie on your win. As always thanks to all the “behind the scene” crew who organise these events, also to the Umpires, Controlling Body, the Markers and last but not least the Social Committee who once again provided some delicious sandwiches for lunch. The winners for social bowls by drawing a card were Jan Kuzmic, Dorothy Dallas, Jo Younghusband and Loretta Baker. Birthday greetings to Lynne Green. The bi-monthly meeting was held after lunch and it was good to see many members present. Club President Robyn Webster presented a gift to Lily Smith and Kayelene Pearson, both semi-finalists in the Major Singles Competition. The tradition of presenting a gift to the semi-finalists is from a legacy donated by Lorna Brennan, a lifetime member of the Women’s Bowling Club. On Thursday 16 February, just a small group of bowlers turned up for social bowls. The hot weather conditions deterring a lot of players plus two teams absent as they were competing in the District Fours Competition. Just a reminder, due to the hot weather social bowls play starts at 9am. Early start will continue probably till mid March. The winners for social bowls with a win plus ends were Lynda Richards, Bev Stephens and Karen Green. On Friday 24 February Tea Gardens Women’s Bowling Club are hosting the final of the District Fours Competition. Spectators are welcome. It is an opportunity to witness some great bowling.
