TUESDAY 14 June: The Semi Final of the Minor Singles Competition and Social bowls played. Both Minor Singles games developed into hard fought games. Judy McGavock and Ingrid Luck did battle for 28 ends the score going into what eventuated to be the final end was Judy 24 and Ingrid 23, Judy scored 1 reached the goal of 25 and claimed her spot in the final. Sheril Johnson and Lynda Richards played 27 ends Lynda started strongly but Sheril was unrelenting with her great draw bowling winning 25 v 20. Should be an interesting final, Judy v Sheril. Social bowls played 2 games of pairs and a game of Triples Liv Everingham (swinger lead), Dot Dallas and Lorraine Murphy defeated Liv, Dale Cameron and Sandra Leisemann 18 v 17. A big win to Judi Polak and Robyn Beaumont 25 v Deyonne Page and Chrissy Buddle 7. Finally a drawn game, 11 all between Pam Gilchrist and Dale Winter v Sheila Rattray and Karen Green. The winners on the day winning with the lowest score were Liv, Dot and Lorraine. Deyonne Page was the winner of the raffle thanks to The Garden Eatery for donating the raffle prize. Thursday 16 June: The Final of The Minor Singles Competition Judy McGavock v Sheril Johnson. Judy took an early lead ahead by 6 on the 5th end by the 10th end it was 7 all. Then Sheril was in front by 3 shots on the 14th, 11 v 8, by the 17th end the score 13 all, 19th end 15 all. Judy didn’t add to her tally for the next 6 ends, Sheril was in front by 5 shots 20 v 15, 24 ends bowled. Sheril now just needed 5 points to claim victory but it took another 8 ends before this final finished, Judy wasn’t giving up, by the 31st end Sheril was in front by 1 shot 23 v 22. Judy won the next end and gained 2 points now she was in the lead by 1, 24 v 23, still anyone’s game. Judy won on the 33rd end, (132 bowls delivered by each competitor), 25 v 23, congratulations to both finalists, an enthralling game of bowls to watch. Deyonne Page (Marker) commented that Sheril had 32 “touchers” in this game, indicating what a great game of “draw” bowling this final was.
