The project involves collecting old eyeglasses and sunglasses so they can be recycled to help people with vision problems in less fortunate countries. The sunglasses are also used to protect children’s eyesight in these less-than-fortunate countries. “We currently have more than 100 pairs of glasses provided for recycling but are yet to reach our goal of 250 pairs of glasses,” School Principal Mark Clemson said. “The management at Coles, especially Store Manager Craig Brooks in supporting the initiative is outstanding,” Mark told News Of The Area. ‘’Everyone can help out, by locating those old pairs of unused spectacles and placing them in one of the collection trays provided.” There are collection baskets at the courtesy desk at Coles in Myall Quays Shopping Complex or you can drop off your old specs at the school office. “Our student leaders are driving the initiative at school level and want to be part of helping improve the sight of people from poorer countries around the world.” “It’s great how the local community have already rallied around to support this initiative,” Mark said. The project runs until the end of June so there’s still plenty of time to get those ‘specs’ in. By Margie TIERNEY RECYCLE FOR SIGHT: Student Tyler Rodgers.
