The winners were the Palm Lake combination of; Peter Jones, Neil Kibble, Ron Rowe and Alan Greenhalgh. They amassed 55 points ahead of The Grange side of Peter Cheney, Tom Short, Graham Kelly and Dennis Ashbridge, who finished on 53 points. 12 January Eighteen players competed for bragging rights in the Open Friday Pairs competition. Four teams finished on 30 points with the Triples team of; Barry Goode, David Ransome and Bill Whalan, edging out Bette Saillard and Geoff Page. The teams of Col Saillard and Ross Barry and Ray Prigg and John Slater filled the minor placings. 13 January The Club Championship Fours started today with four teams competing in oppressive heat and humidity. Valliant Frank Dunn, playing whilst quite ill, had to be replaced by Merv Mills in the Denis Wilberforce team. The team went on to win comfortably 26-8 over the Geoffrey Muggleton four. In the other match, the highly favoured Sean Mearrick team were almost unseated by the Danny Johnson four. An extra end was required to decide the match with Sean’s team winning 21-20. 14 January The second round of the Club Fours Championship was played today in contrasting conditions of Saturday. Strong southerly winds and intermittent squalls played havoc on the greens and it was a credit to the bowlers for completing their matches. The Col Amos team accounted for the Bill Thrift team 21-6 with the match called off at the 13th end. The strong Jeff Baker combination accounted for the Denis Wilberforce team 27-12 and in the remaining game, the Ron Webster side accounted for the Ron James four 22-19 in a hard fought tussle. The semi-finals will be played next Saturday with the Jeff Baker team taking on the Sean Mearrick combination. The remaining semi-final should also be a close one with the very talented Col Amos four opposed to the Ron Webster side. Both matches should be great to watch. The final of the Club Fours Championship will be played next Sunday. In other news: The grass green looks an absolute picture thanks to the hard work of greenkeepers Richard Lee and Sean Mearrick. The green has virtually been rebuilt, following a disastrous growing season last year. Bowlers are salivating over its return. By The JAFFA
