Both greens were put to full use but proved challenging to most players with only 5 teams winning both games. It seemed fitting that the winners on the day on 56 points were the team of Ken McKeown, Daryl Martin and John Carey. Tributes were paid to Ken by good friend and bowling partner, Daryl Martin, who praised Ken for his stewardship in guiding the fledging Club through its early days. Well done Ken. You will be missed! Merv Mills took out the Myall Bistro voucher, thanks to our sponsors for their support. 23 February: A good field of 14 players contested the usual Friday Open Pairs which was won in a walk by the team of Gary Wynne and Bette Saillard. Gary is playing great bowls at the moment and pairing with a former Club Pairs Champion, Bette made them a formidable combination. 24 February: The first round of the Minor Pairs commenced today with 2 games being played. Terry Munright and Anthony Grant opposed Greg Smith and Noel Jackson in one game and Col Saillard and Devlin took on Dennis Wilberforce and Stewart Sturrock in the other. After a slow start, Greg and Noel mounted a comeback at about the halfway point but Terry and Anthony had too many shots accumulated before the ends ran out. Terry and Anthony winning 26-22. In the other game Dennis and Stewart were out of the blocks early and after 5 ends led 13-1. Col and Ken were left shell-shocked and mounted a recovery mission to square the game at 20-20 with 2 ends to play. The teams were tied at the 21st and on the extra end Denis and Stewart prevailed winning 22-21. A great game! 25 February: On a very humid morning, 17 bowlers took part in Sunday Mixed Bowls. The Club welcomed visitors from Camden; Dermot and Sue Wilford. The winners were John Atherton and Karen McPhie. Lucky losers were Vaughan Bryant, Rob Young and Dorothy Thompson. Thanks to cook Ron Webster. The second round of the Club Minor Pairs was played when thankfully the hot north-westerly gave way to a nice south-easterly in the afternoon. The results were as follows; Vic Garlick and Graeme Watkins won 33 -3 over Harry Kennedy and Ray Progg. Peter Cheney and John Slater defeated Brian McPhie and Frank Dunn 33-6. Gary Wynne and Graham Kelly finished too strong for Bruce Everitt and Lon Richards winning 21-16. Unable to keep their good form going from the previous day, Denis Wilberforce and Stewart Sturrock succumbed to Terry Munright and Anthony Grant 14-26. Dropping a 6 on the first end did not help. Ouch! The semi-finals will be played next Saturday with the finals on Sunday. By The JAFFA
